Getting Over Our Love Music and lyrics by Ric Robertson are you open eyed are you living free are your stars aligned how they ought to be are you out with somebody else getting over our love are things looking up is life treating you good are you shining brighter than you ever knew you could are you out with somebody else getting over our love people ask me how I'm doing and I tell 'em fine, just fine but now and then a question echoes softly through my mind on a lonely night under the summer moon do you think of me when I think of you or are you out with somebody else getting over our love I stay out late I paint the town I sing till I don't think about you out with somebody else getting over our love and the booze flows down and my heart pounds on like a midnight pearl in the morning sun till I'm out with somebody else getting over our love people ask me how I'm doing and I tell 'em fine, just fine but now and then a question echoes softly through my mind on a lonely night under the summer moon do you think of me when I think of you or are you out with somebody else getting over our love

when the day is new I'll be waiting for you to stop by, like you do say hello and it's warm with you there and I'll try not to care but a hush fills the air when you go it's just another harmless feeling can't hurt no one it's like a carnival ride and plain to see that I'm still breathing there ain't no damage done it's just a harmless feeling when the nights are long and I see your light turned on it gets stuck like a song in my head let the rain try to drown that refrain going round while another sleeps so sound in my bed it's just another harmless feeling can't hurt no one it's like a carnival ride and plain to see that I'm still breathing there ain't no damage done it's just a harmless feeling

carolina child keep me lush and low made of the mountain bound for the shore when the winds of worry brush against my dreams muddy creeks are yours for finding fallen trees yours for the climbing where you're gonna wind up, I don't know running with no place to go carolina child at that candy store sweet tooth achin' coming back for more you've had your fill now but it won't be long highs are sinking lower down the crash will keep you on the ground but you never needed wings to help you soar running with no place to go and I still hear you crying and it's best you don't yet know but in time you're gonna find that everybody's in this thing alone running with no place to go singing loud when no one's home carolina child keep me lush and low

the coffee is cold and a spliff half smoked on the edge of the ledge from a bedtime toke I was reaching for rhymes and couldn't quite make the kill but another day waking is another day free till it's "hey, who said that, wait, that was me" there's no limit to what your mind can be when you're living on sycamore hill oh the quiet of the night is a hollow old log where the coyotes howl through a hazy fog such a hush you can almost hear the color of the moonlight spill and the breaking of day worth its weight in gold its a front row ticket to the matinee show and I've since been convinced there's no better way to go than living on sycamore hill I gotta gal with a window seat on the seven forty seven up from new orleans if she's late i'll still wait at the gate it gives me such a thrill and there's stew on the stove and sticks for a fire and a record on deck and a bottle of wine I'm gonna show my baby how fine a time it is living on sycamore hill

there's a rainbow in the gutter and another in the sky one is made up of the muck, the other of the light reflected on a spectrum through a recent rainy sky while the mucky one is coming from the oil running dry its exhausting from the pipes between the tires by the bumpers on the backs of all the cars I've seen driving toward the stickers stuck upon a stop sign sitting at the edge of the block, I'm sitting here singing about anything to keep myself to keep myself from thinkin' about you thinkin' about you babe, what can i do there's a fibonacci sequence that i've heard about but don't know why I thought about just now I looked it up and found its basically a pattern based on adding up the numbers as they come they just get bigger if you draw it out on paper it begins to make a spiral that keeps spinning down and spinning down forever and that's just about as long as i thought we would be together no I didn't mean to do those things I did to hurt ya now I'm sad and singing about anything to keep myself keep myself from thinkin' about you thinkin' about you babe, what can i do there's a feeling you can draw upon its easy if you set a little time aside eventually a seed will start to growing into something that you'd never have expected to believe in till you're falling deeper into something that you've never seen full of sugarplums and turtle doves and every other nickname anybody's ever used to call somebody that they've been without and realized that it's useless to resist the force of gravity cause nothing falls forever and there's nothing left to sing about and nothing I could ever do to keep myself to keep myself from thinkin; about you thinkin' about you babe, what can I do

Anna Rose 04:29
anna rose spends her evenings on the couch alone sleeping by the big screen TV glow and a silhouette of cardboard boxes it's been twenty five days since she last felt the sunshine on her face the only people coming by her place are delivering wine to her doorstep she goes higher and higher hangin' on a codeine kitestring without even knowing up and up she goes every now and again she'll twirl in the wind and a whisper sounds someone calling from the distant ground anna come back home anna rose anna lived used to get off of the graveyard shift bring home breakfast or three hungry kids and flowers for the kitchen table grown in her own backyard she thought about the colors long and hard blues and yellows in a mason jar made her smile just like an angel now she's higher and higher hangin' on a codeine kitestring without even knowing up and up she goes every now and again she'll twirl in the wind and a whisper sounds someone calling from the distant ground anna come back home and she's still rising anna rose anna rose you stay with me everywhere I go with all the darkness that I fear most in my own flesh and bone but on the days I'm blue and feel like checking out of this world too I send a whisper in the wind to you anna come back home
7.
my love never sleeps it goes on and on from dusk till dusk it goes from dawn till dawn when you go away darlin when you're gone I'll love you each night and all day long like the ivy clinging to the wall like the crash of niagara falls like the echo of the lost highway i'll come home to you safe I pray my love never sleeps it goes on and on from dusk till dusk it goes from dawn till dawn when you go away darlin when you're gone I'll love you each night and all day long in my dreams, you're in my arms six AM, you're my alarm quarter past noon you're still by my side when I close my eyes you're always on my mind my love never sleeps it goes on and on from dusk till dusk it goes from dawn till dawn when you go away darlin when you're gone I'll love you each night and all day long

I Don't Mind 04:25
I don't mind dancing with you baby you can have my number and if you got somebody to go home to you can call me if you ever want another I don't mind I don't mind, not at all I've been smooth walkin' slow talkin' round this town feeling like I'm ten feet tall and it'll lay you low when true loves leaves ya heaven knows I've done my time but while I've got more lovin' than one man needs if you want a little, I don't mind I don't mind staying up late but there's one too many people around and I hear the next band's not that great so I'm gonna find a place to go lie down I don't mind I don't mind, come along if you're lookin' for a man to make you feel alright honey I won't do you wrong cause I have been laid low by the trouble I've seen and there's always so much more coming down the line so while I got all the lovin' that one mand needs if you want a little, I don't mind

Julie 05:24
hand me over the bottle I'll set it down by the door it's the last chance we'll have to step out on the floor hold me for a while as the daylight is breaking through a crack in the clouds and the whiskey wears off and the band winds it down hold my heart in your hands till it falls to the ground and I'm waltzing with julie again you won't find me tomorrow and you won't wanna know let's not break this illusion let it fade away slow hold me for a while all I want is to make you smile as the daylight is breaking through a crack in the clouds and the whiskey wears off and the band winds it down hold my heart in your hands till it falls to the ground and I'm waltzing with julie again

about

Ric Robertson is an American original, pulling influences from the greats that came before, but wholly responsible for building his own creative universe. His new full-length record Carolina Child is nothing short of an opus, taking his wealth of musical proclivities—from the mountain music of his home state of North Carolina, all the way to the jazz and funk of his current homebase in New Orleans—and fueling it into a gonzo vision of Americana that is equally innovative as it is simply beautiful to hear. As a songwriter, Robertson takes his inspiration from the fragility of our inner lives and the small moments packed with meaning that surround us. This is John Prine by way of New Orleans, Harry Nilsson in a Nudie suit, a stoned Dr. John lost in Nashville, Bill Monroe on mushrooms listening to Bessie Smith. It’s a riot of juxtapositions and a chaos of imagination anchored by Robertson’s soft, flowing voice, and his uncanny knack for chronicling our lost lives. Carolina Child was produced by Dan Molad of Lucius, and features Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig from Lucius plus a whole host of Robertson’s friends and picking partners including Dori Freeman, Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers), and Logan Ledger. Listening to the album's ten tracks, it's clear that Robertson—one of the best kept secrets of Americana—is poised for a breakout moment with Carolina Child. Step into his boundlessly creative multi-verse and you’ll find nothing short of American songbook excellence.
